We Help Children Thrive in Safe and Supportive Environments
At Family Care for Children & Youth, Inc. our goal is to provide children in Pennsylvania with nurturing, supportive homes in which they can thrive. Kinship Care is an arrangement in which a child or youth lives with a caregiver with whom they already share a relationship.
Family Care for Children & Youth, Inc. will complete a temporary approval of a home if we can and place the child in our care, or if a county prefers, we can complete the home study for a fee.

How Kinship Care Benefits Children or Youth in Our Care
At Family Care for Children & Youth, Inc. we are passionate about helping children and youth in the Pennsylvania child welfare system find happy, safe, and loving homes. One way we can do that is through our Kinship Care Program. Placing children with relatives or individuals they already have a previously established connection to is considered a positive and effective option for children and youth in need of out of home placements. It often means grandparents or other family members step in to provide a stable and familiar environment. Being placed with known kinship caregivers can provide a sense of comfort and security for the child or youth, and create an environment where they belong and feel loved.

Advantages for Children Placed in Kinship Care:
Identity
Living in a new environment can be a stressful and troubling time for a child. It can throw their identity into question, and they may find it difficult to socialize and fit in. Kinship care provides them with a safe and familiar environment in which their significant attachments, identities, and cultures are preserved.
Historically Proven
While foster parents always do their best to provide a safe and nurturing environment, some children struggle to adapt to completely new situations. Our kinship care offers a historically proven method of supporting children within their existing familial and cultural systems. The trained caregiver is able to care for the child in a profound, intentional, and successful way.
Team Approach
At Family Care for Children & Youth, Inc. we understand the value of having a strong support system for both foster children and their caregivers. Our consistent, team-based approach means that the child grows and develops in a caring, understanding, and fully supportive environment.
Trauma Minimization
An unstable living situation can cause trauma that could have long-term effects for a child or youth. Our Kinship Care Program aims to bridge the gap that is created from the fear of the unknown when children and youth are separated from familiar and comforting figures in their lives. This ultimately works to reduce trauma that children or youth may experience in the transition.
